Advancing Import and Modify
By Vivekan Iyengar, Product Manager
The main drivers for 3D ACIS / InterOp R20 were the need for improved handling of imported geometry and greater coverage of product manufacturing information (PMI) data exchange. R20 strengthens InterOp PMI semantic support with a focus on process automation, providing full assoiciativity to the owning geometry. Our development partners in manufacturing and measurement use semantic PMI imported from CATIA V5, NX & Pro/E models for their inspection, tolerance and cost analysis applications. InterOp R20 provides support for CATIA V5 assembly level PMI, NX PMI Display Information and CATIA V5 non semantic geometric tolerances.
Most of our development partners build downstream applications that must work with 3D models created in another system. R20 offers all ACIS based applications more robustness in handling imported data. R20 includes enhancements to Boolean & Blending component for working with imported data and handling tolerant input geometry. R20 provides our CAD application developers with robustness improvements to Local Operations for handling remove faces and sheet thickening operations. And for tool and die stamping applications ACIS R20 provides a new interface to 3D Springback by taking an input of FEA deformed mesh points and producing the resulting CAD model.
A strong customer demand for ACIS R20 development was to provide a high level error return mechanism to isolate the problematic entities causing the failure of ACIS routines. ACIS R20 provides this mechanism which can be used by ACIS applications to present diagnostic information to end users.
R20 also includes RADF for accelerating 3D application development and improving time-to-market for software providers and software-enabled machine manufacturers.
R20 furthers Spatial’s commitment to ensure 3D InterOp provides the highest quality manufacturable CAD models. InterOp R20 offers enhanced Brep translation with the support for CATIA V5 material names, ProE free curves and free surfaces. InterOp R20 also supports for latest versions of CAD and industry standard formats including V5 R19, NX6, WildFire 4.0, SolidWorks 2009, Inventor 2009 and Parasolid 21.
