Developed by Dassault Systèmes, SolidWorks is a solid modeling computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided engineering (CAE) program that primarily runs on Windows.

In 2013, more than two million engineers and designers spanning 165,000 companies used SolidWorks.

The software is able to import the following types of files:

  • Drawing Exchange Format (.dxf)
  • Drawing (.dwg)
  • Adobe Photoshop (.psd)
  • Adobe Illustrator (.ai)
  • Parasolid (.x_t)
  • STEP (.stp)
  • ACIS (.sat)
  • IGES (.igs, .iges)
