Our history

1986

Spatial Corporation was founded in 1986, and had one main product: ACIS, the first commercially available 3D modeling kernel. The ACIS kernel was developed using C++ and became one of the first commercial software products based on object-oriented programming.

1998 - 2000

Dassault Systèmes acquired Spatial Technology, including its flagship ACIS 3D modeling kernel and other technologies, for $25 million after countering a competing offer. This acquisition integrated Spatial into 3DS’s portfolio and refocused its efforts on advancing interoperability and geometric modeling solutions.

Early 2000s

Spatial introduced 3D Interop Parasolid BRep, 3D Interop PMI, and 3D Interop ACIS BRep, solidifying its position in CAD interoperability. Spatial also formed its first partnership with TechSoft for the visualization solution HOOPS Visualize.

Mid-2000s

Spatial Cambridge transitioned to sole responsibility for intersectors and Booleans in ACIS. This expertise contributed to the development of cutting-edge modeling solutions.

2007

Spatial adopted Agile development methodologies, accelerating its iteration cycles and enhancing customer responsiveness.

2010s

Spatial expanded its capabilities with Polyhedra for CGM and ACIS, 3D Interop Graphical, CDS, CGM & Interop for CGM, further enhancing its modeling and interoperability solutions.

2016

Spatial’s European sales operations migrated from Saarbrücken, Germany, to Velizy, France, aligning sales activities with Dassault Systèmes’ broader strategy.

2017

Spatial collaborated closely with SolidWorks, integrating Spatial InterOp into SolidWorks Desktop, resulting in ongoing feature enhancements and deeper partnerships.

2020-2025

Spatial introduced advanced solutions, including 3D Precise Mesh, CSM/CVM, and AGM Web. Partnerships with TechSoft continued with HOOPS Communicator for enhanced visualization, and new developments such as Data Prep underscored Spatial’s adaptability to modern challenges.
