.iges 文件格式用于在 CAD 软件之间传输设计的二维或三维数据，可保存为 IGES 或 .IGS 文件。这种文件类型通常包含模型的表面信息，但也可能包含线框和实体模型等数据以及电路信息。与其他文件类型一样，IGES 文件也采用初始图形交换规范标准的 ASCII 格式。
IGES 格式最初由美国空军（USAF）于 20 世纪 70 年代设计并用于制造航空航天零件，现在已用于机械和汽车等许多其他行业。不过，随着时间的推移，它已被 .stp 和 Parasolid 等更高效的文件格式所取代，因此自 20 世纪 90 年代末以来，IGES 的使用已大幅减少。
